Case Study: UCI Health Website Redesign & UX Enhancement
UCI Health is the only academic health system in Orange County, transitioning into one of California’s largest health networks. It operates multiple hospitals, outpatient centers, urgent care, and the region’s sole National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center
The Challenges
Following major expansion—adding hospitals and outpatient facilities—UCI Health’s existing website was outdated and overloaded with content:
- Cluttered navigation that made finding doctors, services, and locations difficult.
- Unclear service discovery, especially for specialists, clinical trials, and urgent care options.
- Scannability issues—content was lengthy and dense, reducing usability for busy patients
- Lack of personalization, inadequate tools for finding care specific to ZIP codes or conditions
Our Strategy
- Simplified top-level navigation with focal points: “Find a Clinician,” “Find a Location,” and “Find Services.”
- Introduced ZIP-code based search to customize results—clinicians, clinics, and trials—tailored to the user’s neighborhood
- Rewrote key service pages (“Cancer Care,” “Urgent Care”) using scannable formats: headings, bullet lists, CTAs like “Book Appointment” and “Call Now.”
- Optimized meta tags, heading structure, and page load times to enhance search rankings and user experience.
